As a young 23 year old Ernest Bennett started his business in 1956. A year later he was joined by his nephew, Rob Maxey. In 1960 they outgrew their small workshop and moved into an 1800 square foot purpose built factory unit on land purchased from a local farmer. In 1961 Roger Fretwell joined the small team as a young 15 year old, now our Works Manager, he has just celebrated 50 years of continued service to the company. 1962 brought further expansion of the business by acquiring a small workshop in Darlington to service work for customers in the north. Rob moved to Darlington with his family and set up Ernest Bennett & Co. Darlington Ltd. Both companies have grown over the last 50 years to become leaders in the field of saw servicing and manufacturing. With over 60,000 square feet of factory space and over 100 staff, the two associated companies can offer unrivalled service and quality to the woodworking and metal working industries.
